Direct current (dc) sources and circuits containing dc sources have been discussed so far. The direction of these currents does not alter over time. However, time-varying voltages and currents are also extremely common. Our houses’ and workplaces’ main electrical supply has a voltage that changes over time like a sine wave. Such a voltage is known as an alternating voltage, or ac voltage, and the current that flows through a circuit as a result of it is known as an alternating current, or ac . The majority of the electrical equipment we use today needs ac voltage. This is mostly because power companies sell the majority of their electrical energy as alternating current, which can be transferred and distributed efficiently with less power loss.
AC circuits exhibit characteristics which are used in many devices in common life . In this chapter we will discuss the working and use of components like resistance, inductor and capcitor with an ac source. We will see if all of them are connected to form a circuit called LCR circuit , it can be used to select a alternating current of a perticular frequency.
